Be a Part of Something Special !

The Hospital Volunteers of Venice, with nearly 600 dedicated members, support the advancement of the entire health care system.

We accomplish this goal, by assisting the professional staffs, in providing comfort and care to patients and their families.  We generate funds which are used to provide grants, donations and scholarships for continuing medical education.

A wide variety of oppurtunities are available throughout the health care system for volunteers ages 14 years and up. Prospective volunteers are interviewed for placement, attend an orientation session, and receive on-the-job training. The minimum commitment required is four (4) hours per week on an ongoing basis, with seasonal placements available for at least four months. What Hospital Volunteers is About

Our Philosophy of Volunteer Service »

The HVV is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, a separate entity from our partner, Venice Regional ShorePoint Health and its affiliate, the HealthPark. Our mission is to support the hospital in its objective of providing compassionate and dedicated care to all those who are in distress of mind or body. We serve patients, their families and the community through the hospital and HealthPark. We greet patients and families at curbside as they arrive. We provide them with free valet parking --the best deal in Sarasota County-- during their stay. We assist them in the registration process. We escort them to where they have to be within the hospital or HealthPark. And we serve as their advocates, to assure that they are treated with expertise, care and respect. The hospital provides space for us to run income generating enterprises such as MedicalGuardian, the Elephant's Trunk Thrift Store and the Korner Gift Shoppe. We use the income from those activities for the benefit of (1)students seeking scholarships funds for pursuing careers in healthcare, (2)patients and visitors who get all that free valet parking, and (3)other nonprofit organizations such as Tidewell Hospice, South County Food Pantry and the Boys and Girls Clubs.

  • Grants & Donations
  • Our History
  • Our Purpose

This past fiscal year we operated the Elephant's Trunk Thrift Shop, the hospital's Korner Gift Shoppe and the MedicalGuardian Alert service, and

we also sponsored and conducted numerous special events and fund-raisers within the Venice community. Profits from these activities were returned to the community in the form of scholarships, grants and donations. For the fiscal year we paid out a record $234,468. Since its inception the HVV has made grants and donations to the Venice community totaling $8.3 million.

The Hospital Volunteers of Venice began operations in 1951 as an auxiliary arm of what is now Venice Regional ShorePoint Health.

Its' earliest members were active and interested women, many of them the wives of physicians or local businessmen. Over the years the HVV grew in numbers and impact as it assumed increasing responsibility in serving the hospital's staff, patients and families in the local community. Now the HVV has over 600 men and women in its corps of volunteers, the highest ratio of volunteers to hospital beds in greater Southwest Florida.

The HVV's primary purpose is to support the Venice Regional ShorePoint Health's vision to be the healthcare provider of choice.

Our Volunteers provide compassionate care in over 50 departments/services throughout Venice Regional ShorePoint Health and the HealthPark.
